What is pocketgame?
Pocketgame is, simply, a game creation competition set by Cadbury. We want you (yes, you) to invent a game that we can make and give away to people. But not just any sort of game… a pocketgame.
A pocketgame doesn’t require technological wizardry, mobile reception, special glasses or anything else to make it playable… it’s an instant game in the palm of your hand, kept in your pocket.
Perhaps it’s a bit like a cross between the most amazing Christmas cracker game you’d ever find, that game you carried around everywhere when you were a kid and the joy of playing conkers or battling with spinning tops…
…but of course, it’s hard to tell exactly what it’s like as you’ve still got to invent the games. We really can’t wait to see what you’ll come up with.
“Why, what’s in it for me…?”
Here’s a rough outline of how pocketgame will work…
The window for entries will be from Monday 21st June until Monday 19th July at 5pm.
We’re going to take all the entries and display them at the Hide & Seek Weekender at the National Theatre on the 9th-11th July. It’ll be a bit like Tony Hart’s ‘Gallery’...

All the people there will be able to vote for the ones they like, which will be fed into a shortlisting session with our esteemed panel of judges (including Russell Davies, Mark Earls, Tom Armitage, Katy Lindemann, Adrian Hon, Hide & Seek, Robert Jeffries of Inition and Tim Milne of Matterbox). Every shortlisted entry will receive a special goody bag from Cadbury.
The shortlist will then be put to public vote, and the top two ideas will go head to head in Matterbox in Autumn 2010...

...which means 25,000 creative, playful 18-24 year olds will be sent two games to play, and will vote to decide the eventual winner.
The winning design will get a cash prize of £3000, and the runner up will receive £1000.
Finally, we're just writing up the final T&Cs for the competition just now, but we are keen for all of the people who enter pocketgame to retain as many of the rights to their own design as we can manage.
